Articles and Customer FAQ
On this page I hope to answer the most common questions that I get from my customers.
Look back on a regualr basis, as I may just have answered your question.
Q: Where did the name Roost Racing come from?
A: Firstly, no I don't have a thing aboout chickens :-)) The name comes from the roost of dirt and mud that's thrown up
from the rear wheel of a motocrosser. Simple really and doesn't have anything to do with chickens or roosters,
but I kinda liked the rooster head so it stuck as the company logo.
Q: Will the DRC Stand be OK to use on my KTM 660 Supermoto?
A: Yes, the DRC bike stand is designed to fit under almost any bike. Because of its unique design
it'll fit under anything from an XSport to a Husaberg in full MX trim and still manage to get
both wheels off the ground when fully raised.
Q: I like the One Industries Trooper helmet designs, but are they up to the punishment of racing?
A: This one's easy, yes. But seriously, the One Industries helmets are all top quality products, so much so that
I use them for racing myself. Needless to say if I trust my head in the Trooper helmet racing Supermoto, I definately
think that they are up to the job.
Q: Do you sponsor any riders?
A: We don't sponsor any individuals at the moment, instead we sponsor events. Recently
we sponsored the junior class in the Maxxis Motard Masters series and the NORA Day of
Champions at Cadwell. We find that this is a better and fairer way of doing things, then everyone at least
stands a chance of getting something.
Q: I want to start racing, how do I go about it?
A: The first thing, if you've not already done it, is go along to a race meeting and have a chat with the guys there.
Most of us are friendly enough and will be happy to answer any questions that you have.
Assuming you've been to a meeting and still like the idea of racing, the next thing to
do is join a local motocross, enduro or supermoto club that specialises in the type of event you want to take part in. The club
organises events and licenses etc so all you really have to do is prep your bike, enter the correct
class and off you go.
Q: Are the cycra pro bend handguards any good for a supermoto bike?
A: Yes and for enduro bikes too. You'll find that some bike importers fit them as standard and you'll see a lot of racers using them
because of the level of protection they provide.
Q: I want to convert my mx bike to a supermoto, what do I need to do?
A: First thing is you have to decide if you want to convert it purely for racing, for road use or even for both. The 2
essentails are supermoto wheels and supermoto brakes.
Once you've bought your wheels you'll need supermoto tyres and of course a master cylinder
to power the brake caliper. Equally as functional are durable handguards to protect your levers in the event of a fall.
Finally you'll want a supermoto front fender and if it's for road use a supermoto headlight.
I'm not going to delve into the ins and outs of road registering your supermoto here as it would take up most of the page,
however Supermotech have a very comprehensive article on the subject of road registering a supermoto in their "Tech" section.
Q: I want to order a sixsixone flight helmet, how do I know what size to order?
A: Helmet sizes are all pretty much standard so all you need to do is measure your head in centimetres
and that's the helmet size you need. Take your tape measure and start at the eyebrow,
take it round just above the top of your ear, to the back of the head and back round the other side. To find out more about motocross clothing sizes, go to our sizing chart page.
Q: Is the TomTom Rider GPS suitable for trail riding?
A: Yes, you can use the tomtom rider for accessing trails. However it should be said that it is not quite
as proficient at the task as a Garmin eTrax, as the Tomtom is designed more with touring bikes in mind.
That said, it's still a very competent GPS and if you're finances don't run to having a touring GPS and a walking GPS,
the the TomTom Rider will satisfy both with a bit of creative useage.
As with any GPS system, it is always recommended that you don't rely on it and nothing else, always carry a map with you just in case.
Q: Is the DRC Hybrid ramp suitable for quads and atvs?
A: Yes 2 DRC ramps can be used to easily load your quad into the back of a van or transporter.
Q: What does a knee brace do and will it help me?
A: That's a difficuly one to answer fully wihtout knowing what you're expecting from a knee brace. As an
example, the EVS Web knee brace is designed to both protect your knee
from injury and support it during riding. The concept is that a knee brace is designed to deflect, divert
and absorb energy that is normally placed on the leg and knee, whist still allowing you the flexibility to
bend your leg whilst riding. The knee brace is also designed to prevent over extension, when your leg tries
to bend in the wrong direction. Some people wear knee braces to prevent knee injury, whilst others choose
to wear one to give extra protection and support an existing injured knee.
